Corporate Careers are dead – do this instead

Corporate Careers are dead – do this instead

With Christmas just around the corner now is the time where giant corporations lay people off. Corporations just want to use people for all their worth and when there is a minor inconvenience, they’ll leave you out in the cold.

If that is you I am sorry. If you are fed up with being coerced to working long hours just to keep your insurance let me show you another way to make money.

You should start your own content creation business.

Here are the 5 steps I would take to start your content creation business.

  1. Adapt to a new mindset
  2. Figure out who you want to help
  3. Listen to what they need help with
  4. Set up your profiles
  5. Start creating!

Adapt to a new mindset

The very first step you need to take is to adjust your mindset.

You are switching roles from employee to business owner. You have to approach life differently now that you are doing things on your own. Nothing will be given to you. You have to do more to earn your paycheck. The upside is that you can earn far more than at your previous position.

Your mindset is what will make or break you. If you picture yourself doing well, you’ll do well. I believe in you!

Figure out who you want to help

The way you help people in the content creation business is by figuring out who to help.

You should think about what hobbies you enjoy. There are no doubt people who enjoy those hobbies as well who need help figuring things out. It would be better to help people where you are most experienced. For example, if you were a programmer, you could help people with programming.

Listen to what they need help with

Once you know who to help, you need to know what they need help with.

What to people struggle the most with? Let’s continue with the previous example of helping programmers. Do they need help understanding the path to becoming a better programmer? Do they have difficultly doing job interviews? Do they need help getting over imposter syndrome?

Theses are the frustrations the people in your hobby are experiencing. These are also the problems that they will be the most grateful for you to help them solve. Once you help them, they’ll become life long fans.

Set up your profiles

Now you need to set up your profiles.
You should be on as many major platforms as possible. First think up your username. Then make a separate email that’s just for content creation. Then go to all of the major platforms and make accounts.

You should also buy the domain name to your website. Ideally your domain is just your username. I had to use the domain ‘realanthonyhowell.com’ since someone already took ‘Anthonyhowell.com’.

Here’s a list of the platforms:

  1. Youtube
  2. Facebook
  3. Twitter
  4. Instagram
  5. Tiktok
  6. Linkedin
  7. Rumble
  8. Reddit
  9. Snapchat
  10. Pinterest
  11. Twitch

Of course you don’t need to post on all of these. You should just pick one and work to develop your reputation as a valuable content creator on there. At this point in time you are just parking your username so no one else can steal it.

Start creating!

You are all set to start creating! But you’re probably wondering what to create.

You should create content that is either:

  1. Interesting
  2. Informative
  3. Timely

Let’s continue with the programming example. Let’s say you wanted to talk about a little known technique that programmers should be doing. If that technique is interesting to you, it’s probably interesting to others.

Maybe you would like to inform people who are new to programming some of the basics. You can create a tutorial to inform people of how to program. Just make sure the information is easily digestible!
